St George's College outclassed St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) to capture their second straight Olivier Shield title at Harbour View Mini Stadium yesterday.

In the second-leg contest, watched by two illustrious STETHS past students - world 100m hurdles champion Brigitte Foster-Hylton and West Indies fast bowler Daren Powell - St George's won 2-1 on the day for a 5-3 aggregate victory.

Marvin Morgan, one of the country's top schoolboy footballers, stunned STETHS with a 13th-minute goal. Romario Jones netted in the 51st minute to add more salt to the wounds of the daCosta Cup champions. Deshaun Brown, the top striker in rural Jamaica this season, scored STETHS's consolation goal in the 71st minute.

coach praises team

St George's coach Neville Bell praised his team for defending their title, but was quick to point out that it was not one of their best games."... but I thought we played well, we played well enough to win and I thank God for that ..." Bell said.He added that his boys got a little too comfortable and that was the reason why they gave up a late goal.

Andrew Edward, coach of STETHS, said he was "happy that Brown was able to produce a moment of brilliance for the fans".

"We probably were as hyped up for the game as we should have been; the motivation was not where it supposed to be ... but it was a very long and trying season and, hopefully, we can get back here next year and do a better job," he said.

STETHS began positively but failed to force any saves from the St George's goalkeeper. St George's, playing without top man McKaully Tulloch (injured), took over the game from the 10th minute and it was virtually one-way traffic thereafter.

The opening goal was a well-constructed one. Jhuvon Francis crossed fom the right and it was met by a brilliant header from Morgan.

It was as if the goal knocked the energy out of STETHS as the traffic continued one-way with St George's teaching their opponents a lesson in ball possession.

STETHS's goalkeeper Gregory McKogg was called on to make a number of saves but luckily for him the upright was the saviour on at least one occasion.

In the second half, it was again all St George's and it wasn't long before Morgan, who could not be contained, set up the second goal, a cross, which Jones slotted home from close in.

With a healthy 5-2 overall advantage, St George's were content to maintain ball possession.

However, when it appeared as if STETHS were going to leave without a spark of brilliance from their top marksman Brown, he finally delivered. The goal came after a good combination between Kevon Farquharson and Brown. Brown picked up the ball with his back to goal, turned and fired home in one motion past the diving Windell Reid in goal for St George's.
