WESTERN BUREAU:

To friends, she is 'Mother Teresa' and 'Princess of Peace'; her children say she is 'almost the perfect mother' and her husband declares there's not a more wonderful woman a man could have as wife.

Janet Genus turns 50 and is far more fabulous now than when she was 'teasing at 20', 'trash at 30', and 'fantastic at 40', says her friend, Ruddy Walters, who was among the large group that turned out for the '50 and Fabulous' do at Villa Sonate, Cardiff Hall in St Ann, on Saturday, December 5.

The philanthropist, who has adopted more of her friends' children that anyone could ever imagine, was surrounded by several of the people whose lives she has touched.

a gift from heaven

A past student of Mount Alvernia High School in Montego Bay, Genus, who operates Genus Pharmacy with her husband, Adrian, was the toast of the night as those paying tribute to her described her as "a gift straight from Heaven", "colour that brightens dark days" and a "unique blend of humility and self-confidence".

As if this were not enough, Genus' Mt Alvernia classmate, Jacqueline Nicholson, of Fi Wi Foods, had guests in stitches all night, reliving some of the most fulfilling memories of 50 years on Earth.

Tina Haughton, Tricia Gordon, Peter Burke, Sandra and Jackie Lawson, Jodex Williams, Sandra and Paul Gallimore, Pearline Carr, Joan Williams and singer A.J. Brown were just a few of the people who made last Saturday night's event one that will be remembered for years to come.
