US gives commitment to reducing HIV

The United States says it will continue to support the programmes that have led to a reduction in the spread of the deadly HIV virus in Guyana, even as it warned that there are likely to be "obstacles that threaten the success of our future HIV prevention, treatment and care efforts," according to a report on www.cananews.net.
In a statement marking World AIDS Day 2009, chargé d'affaires at the US Embassy, Karen Williams said Washington cannot succeed in this fight against HIV/AIDS alone and the US is committed to working with its global partners to support Guyana's leadership in this effort. She said that over the next five years, the US will place renewed emphasis on partnering with Guyana to build the country's national HIV/AIDS response.
