Noteworthy - E10 gas is useless

Published: Saturday | November 28, 2009

  • E10 gas is useless

Yes, it costs less than the regular 87 or 90 gas, but E10 gives you significantly less mileage to the gallon. The cars do not perform as well and the gas station attendants now know your face because you have to 'visit' them so often.

I agree with a previous letter writer that we are living in a country where the Government gives you no alternatives. This is always what happens when there is no competition. We had this problem when Cable and Wireless was the only telecoms provider in the country. We now have it with the Jamaica Public Service and the National Water Commission.

When will the raping of J'can citizens stop?

It is quite obvious that no matter which political party is in power, we will forever be at the mercy of these people who have set their sights on making every member of the Jamaican society poor and disillusioned.

  • Espeut is right

I wish to commend Peter Espeut for his article on Friday's Opinion page. Our nation does lack a comprehensive philosophy of development, corporate vision and values, and purposeful goals.

Hence, we tend to rush to decisions based on the lobby strength of power-interest groups, whether they be in the political, financial or social-cultural spheres of national life.

  • Disappointed in TV hosts

On November 23, I was watching TVJ's Smile Jamaica morning programme, where the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was a guest talking about some of the ills of the justice system. Towards the end she touched on the subject of "the informer fi dead culture" as perpetuated by some deejays. She even quoted some chilling lines from a 'song' by one of these influential deejays. She declared that she was mounting a one-woman protest to try and curb this negative and dangerous behaviour.

Shortly after the DPP left the programme, the next guest was DJ Beenie Man, one of those who subscribes to this culture. I thought the hosts of the programme (Simon Crosskill and Neville Bell) would have used the opportunity to reinforce the disgust expressed by the DPP regarding these lyrics coming from our entertainers. However, they chose to trivialise the matter by joking around with Beenie Man on this most serious issue.

When will influential media persons realise that enough is enough and play their part to help tame the crime monster? I was most disappointed by the nonchalant attitude of these two hosts regarding the matter and, therefore, urge them to act more responsibly.
