Tivoli Wizards defeated Majesty Legends 67-53 in game two of their National Basketball League (NBL)/Flow Southern Conference to level their best-of-three finals at 1-1 on Monday night at the National Stadium courts.
Majesty's bid for victory suffered a big blow before the game. Star player Kemar McLeish was ruled out because of knee injury from Game One.
With McLeish out, Tivoli took charge early and led 27-20 at half time.
The Wizards increased their advantage in the third quarter by one point as they led 45-37 at the end of the period.
The west Kingston-based Wizards, came out firing in the fourth period. Led by leading scorer Anthony Farquharson they quickly jumped to a 60-45 lead with less than three minutes to go. With their main man out, Majesty failed to respond at the other end of the court and the Wizards eased to a comfortable win.
Farquharson had 22 points and 13 rebounds for Wizards. He received good support from Omar Barnes, 17 points and seven rebounds, and André Whilby 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Leading scorer
Captain Baldon Todd was the leading scorer for Majesty with a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds.
Edward 'Ted' Marshall, coach of Wizards, was pleased with his team's performance.
"I think it was a good victory for us because defensively we performed well but I think we are still struggling to score and we have to correct this," said Marshall.
Meanwhile Marland Nattie coach of Majesty, said his team failed to play according to his instructions.
"We did not play well defensively because we allowed the Tivoli team to penetrate down the lane and this resulted in them outplaying us for all four quarters," he said.
Nattie was unsure if McLeish would be ready for the decisive Game Three.
"It think that his absence affected us because he is one of our best offensive players, but the show must go on," said Nattie.
Game Three will be played tomorrow at the same venue starting at 7 p.m.
