Time to take a stand

The Editor, Sir:

It is time for us as Jamaicans to take a stand and make a change. Recently, in Mandeville, the water system was disrupted because of a power surge, causing the whole town of Mandeville and its residents to go without water for days.

Upon calling the National Water Commission (NWC), angry customers were met with officials who tried to pacify them. One official said to me that the problem would be fixed soon, hopefully.

The most frustrating thing about the situation is that at the end of the month our water bill will reflect charges for services that we did not get. How much more can we take? The NWC needs some competition to wake them up and let them understand that such a necessity cannot be taken lightly.

Pay for services

We are the taxpayers and customers are constantly having to pay for services that we are not getting. Communities like Sunset and Beltline, Manchester, where there are pipes, still go without water for weeks at a time.

How long can we endure this?

The Government needs to ensure that a situation like this does not occur again because at the end of the day the only ones who suffer are the residents.

I am, etc.,
