Helping to build Jamaica

The Editor, Sir:

Regarding your article yesterday headlined 'PM's unfixable problems'. I have a suggestion. Mr PM, sir, use the Internet and all media outlets to speak to the Jamaican people. Ask each of us to make a contribution of, say, US$10 per month for three to six months to the 'Build Back Jamaica Fund'. These contributions should be in an account, which can be easily viewed on the Internet for all to see. From these funds you will properly equip the police force with modern technology, equip the hospitals with modern equipment, refurbish all police stations and schools islandwide, pay down our debt, retool our manufacturing sector, etc.

However, before you embark on this simple request, you must put in place legislation that will help the necessary bodies to curtail crime and corruption; for example introduce plea bargaining, video testimony, and stiffer jail time for gun-related crimes.

I know that the international Jamaican population will gladly contribute to the proposed fund if you convince us that you are serious about building back Jamaica.

I am, etc.,
