Western Bureau:

In a bid to generate some much-needed income for its upcoming 2009-2010 domestic season, the cash-strapped St James Football Association (StJFA) will be staging a fund-raising triple- header at Jarrett Park, Montego Bay, this Sunday evening, starting at four o'clock.

Following the curtain-raiser, which will see a St James Masters aggregation opposing their Kingston counterparts, Granville and Wadadah will square off at 6 p.m., followed by a clash between St James' Seba United and Hanover's Montpelier at 8 p.m.

"The idea is to look at the early form of the confederation teams as well as to generate some funds for the teams and the St James Football Association," said a release from StJFA boss, George Evans.

'Grudge' match

The opening game between the St James and Kingston masters is somewhat of a grudge match as three weeks ago the St James team defeated the Kingstonians 4-2 in an exhibition game, which was also played at Jarrett Park.

"It is dubbed 'Revenge of the Cities' following St James' win three weeks ago," stated Evans. "Kingston will be bringing a much-improved squad, which could include former Jamaican talisman Onandi Lowe."

With their preparation for the upcoming Captain's Bakery-sponsored Western Super League now on in earnest, the match-up between Wadadah and Granville will create an opportunity for both teams to test their state of readiness. In addition, it is a chance for the teams to create an early impression on their fans.

The final game between Seba United and Montpelier is also an opportunity for those teams to advertise their state of readiness for the Western Super League. Seba United recently turned in a disappointing performance in a 2-4 loss to a Jamaica Invitational X1 and should be aiming to make amends in this game.

While the StJFA is busy laying the framework for the 2009-2010 domestic season, difficult times are ahead, as with a close to $1 million debt, which includes $650,000 owed to the St James Referees' Group, the signs going forward are not promising.
