Encouraged by support from an earlier film venture, Joan Edwards and Junior Powell of Signature Films Limited, have embarked on another form of entertainment - the game show, Dollars and Sense. The launch of the game show took place last Wednesday at the Hilton hotel in New Kingston. A small group of invited guests viewed a clip of the show and there were also speeches from the sponsors and producers of the show.

Edwards, who serves as the production manager, said there are three key features of Dollars and Sense. "To revive aspects of Jamaica's culture that have been forgotten - all the questions will be about Jamaica," she said. The other two are the intrigue of the contestants' stories, as they will be chosen because of their inspiring stories and the third is the monetary aspect - Dollars and Sense is, after all, about money, as indicated by the shows tag line, 'We've got the dollars, do you have the sense?'

Launch

Another innovative feature of the game show is the segment 'My two cents - smart way to spend money'. In this segment, participants will be given financial advice. Imani Duncan, representing Jamaica Money Market Brokers, explained that her company would provide the money expert for the show, who will give advice on money management, budgeting, etc.

Signature Films Limited, through Dollars and Sense, said it uses people who are not well known. The entire production team is either unpopular or new to the industry. Mendel Thompson, the game show host, who also served as MC for the launch, is one of the unknown faces.

The rules are simple, yet innovative. Contestants who are stumped by a question can switch the question or refer to the internet. Contestants can also go on the D-Deck where the audience will determine their fate, as another option to avoid elimination from the game.

Additionally, each week, a member of the audience will win $10,000. Persons watching at home can also win a chance to participate by texting their name and the word "millionaire".

The Hilton hotel is the venue for the show.

The show will be aired on CVM TV.
