Green

Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green is standing by a comment he made on the weekend about some murdered police per-sonnel themselves being criminals .

While saying that he had not been formally addressed by the Police Federation, Green said he was prepared to furnish evidence to substantiate his claim.

"I can produce the evidence, but I will not be putting it out in the public arena," Green told The Gleaner.

Hours after he made the statement, the Police Federation called for Green's resigna-tion or for him to provide evidence supporting his claim.

Untimely

Sergeant Raymond Wilson, chairman of the Police Federa-tion, said Green's comment was untimely and irresponsible.

The statement came soon after the island recorded the ninth murder of a policeman this year when Constable Delroy Brown was shot and killed in Seaview Gardens, Kingston.

Yesterday, Green said, however, that his statement was not irresponsible.

Wilson said the assistant police commissioner's comment has affected the morale of some policemen.

He said the families of slain policemen had expressed anger at the comments, claiming Green had tarnished the names of their family members.
