J Wray and Nephew loses round two to workers

The Supreme Court yesterday dismissed an application by liquor company J Wray and Nephew for a judicial review against a ruling by the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT).

Last month, the IDT ruled that the company should reinstate 20 workers whose positions were made redundant.

The IDT made the ruling after it was found that J Wray and Nephew acted improperly in making the positions redundant in December last year.

However, the company decided to take the matter to the Supreme Court to seek a judicial review.

But its request was not granted.

In his ruling, Supreme Court judge, Bryan Sykes, said the company did not show that it had an arguable ground for judicial review.

Granville Valentine, National Workers Union vice-president, has described the ruling as another victory for the workers whom he hopes will be reinstated before long.
