ARIMA, Trinidad (CMC):

Trinidad and Tobago's racing secretary, Robin Jaisingh, has lauded Thursday's smashing win by the Jamaican super horse Bruceontheloose in the Republic Bank Trinidad and Tobago Derby at Santa Rosa Park.

Recording the biggest ever victory margin in a T&T Derby, the hot 1-to-5 favourite Bruceontheloose outclassed the field in a 15-length win in a rapid two minutes, 05.64 seconds, the second-fastest ever recorded for the 10-furlong Classic.

"It was a big performance, Jaisingh told CMC Sport.

Only the 2003 T&T Triple Crown winner Top of the Class posted a faster T&T Derby win, clocking 2:05.48.

Although the roan colt experienced traffic problems throughout the event, he was able to break free entering the homestretch and accelerated down the homestretch for an unchallenged victory under Venezuela-born jockey Wilmer Galviz.

"He was boxed in pretty badly throughout most of the early part of the race and he had to be taken back by Galviz, before coming again for his winning run," Jaisingh said.

Bruceontheloose won ahead of Mission King with Barbadian jockey Chris Husbands, Ketchikan and Wesley Henry's mount Marathon Man, giving Jamaica-bred horses all the top-frame finishes.

Jamaica-bred entries Dance Machine and Hurricane Watch also claimed fifth and sixth positions, respectively.

Bred - Wheelaway out of Road to Justice - by HAM Stables, Bruceontheloose is trained by John O'Brien for Jamaican owners Tres Amigos and has become the fifth Jamaican winner of the T&T Derby at Santa Rosa Park, after Mr Lover Lover (1997), Terremoto (1998), Border Dispute (2005) and Pride 'N' Glory (2008).
