Reshuffle the deck

The Editor, Sir:

When we elect a new regime in office we expect them to do better than the previous one, as they would have had an observer's advantage in the stands and would come to the fore with a strategy already in place.

I would, therefore, expect Messrs Golding and Shaw to have hit the ground running and, by now, their policies would be clear to all of us to see. Two years have passed and I am not sure if the policy direction is different from the previous one.

We were told by Shaw that he could have got cheaper money to borrow and this would go to the productive sector, and the income tax net would be widened so we would have more revenue so Government could operate properly. Because he said the ability of Government will dwindle if all our money goes back to debt repayment.

I must now conclude that we did not need a change of Government to take this direction, whether it be finance, education, labour, security, health and construction. I did not say agriculture because I think there is a new direction, not necessarily the right one, but at least the minister is thinking.

So my advice to the prime minister is to reshuffle the Cabinet and include Omar Davies as finance minister, Peter Phillips as security minister, Maxine Henry-Wilson for education, Kellier for labour, Roger Clarke at Construction and Water, and Dr Chang to health.

I know this might be highly improbable but is possible. Do us a favour and save us here in Jamaica

I am, etc.,
