Substitute Kenrick Preston and Jay Lindsay scored late yesterday to guide Bridgeport to a fighting 2-0 win over debutants St Andrew College, in Group E of the urban area ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup schoolboy football competition at Mico University College.

Introduced into the game after a dogged first-half display by the Slipe Road-based St Andrew College, Preston scored via a goal mouth tap-in in the 75th minute, while Lindsay netted from inside the area what turned out to be the insurance goal a minute from time.

The victory, which was Bridgeport's second in as many matches, following their 7-0 thumping of Kingston High on Tuesday, moved the St Catherine-based institution to the top of Group, along with Tivoli, who defeated Kingston High 1-0.

"It was a hard-fought game. St Andrew played with eight to nine men behind the ball at all times and then tried to come at us on the counter," said Bridgeport's coach, Anthony Patrick.

"We played up to par and matched Bridgeport in every area. It's just that they scored and we didn't score. For first-timers, I think we are holding our own," said St Andrew's coach, Cornel Forbes.
