WHEN ONE can do something to make a positive difference in the life of a child, it shows remarkable, unselfish love. That's just what Shakti Mind Body Fitness hopes to do through Shakti Love Fest, to be held on October 3 at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel.

Shakti has partnered with Ocean Spray Wata and the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation to host a charity event where yoga, spinning and music join forces to create an amazing event in the city.

Owner of Shakti, Sharon Feanny, said at the launch last Thursday that all proceeds would be donated to the Bustamante Hospital for Children. She said the whole idea came about when she was at the Shaggy and Friends Concert in January.

Needed in Jamaica

"I was riveted by the stories. I had just had a baby and when everyone else was having fun, I was just crying. I thought to myself, this is just the type of kindness we need in Jamaica," said Feanny.

She pondered what Shakti could do to help. After a few weeks, the idea of the Love Fest was born. She noted that it was supposed to be a small event but, after the word got around, it grew into a much bigger one. The festival will feature both local and overseas instructors, some from as far as Australia and Africa, who are giving their service free of cost.

Activities

The event begins at 5:30 a.m. and ends at 6:30 p.m. There will be four different classes of yoga and spinning plus health talks, music and an intimate concert beginning at 6 p.m., featuring Shaggy and friends, inclusive of Tarrus Riley and more.

All-day access costs $10,000, VIP all-day access, $15,000 and entrance fee plus one class costs $3,500.

Feanny is hoping that this will become a calendar event and garner enough support to assist with turning the Bustamante Hospital for Children in a world-class institution catering to children from all over the Caribbean. She also noted that she would like to sell 2,500 tickets and raise US$100,000. She is imploring everyone to come out in support of this worthy cause.
