FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

The joy of passing seven Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate subjects and looking ahead to sixth form has been dashed for 16-year-old Daniel Sinclair, whose father was hit off a bicycle near Rock in Falmouth, Trelawny, on Sunday.

"We (siblings of the deceased) will have to take full responsibility as Daniel will be going back to school," said his aunt, Patricia Sinclair. "My brother was a jovial person and is going to be greatly missed."

The Monday Gleaner story, 'Car hits cyclist twice', chronicled the shocking death of Daniel's dad, retired jockey Patrick Sinclair.

He was reportedly hit by two different motor vehicles in the vicinity of the bridge near the community of Rock.

Daniel, who lives in Hague, Trelawny, will be moving to sixth form at the William Knibb Memorial High. He wants to pursue studies in computer science or information technology.

His father also has three adult children who live abroad.

Reports are that before occupants of the first vehicle could come to Sinclair's aid, a second vehicle struck him.

It was a double hit for the family, as Sinclair's brother, Wayne, who was also a jockey, died in the '80s after he was hit from a bicycle.

Patrick's death has triggered a call by residents for a sidewalk to be constructed along the Martha Brae to Falmouth roadway. There have been two road fatalities along the stretch this year.

About 3,000 students from William Knibb High, Holland High, Hague Primary and Infant and Dennis Tobin Prep schools use the roadway.

Residents also want street lights installed on the Martha Brae road, which is heavily trafficked.

Though supporting the call, Falmouth Mayor Colin Gager has cited a drawback.

"Our quota of lights is limited but we may have to give some to this cause," said Gager, who chairs the Trelawny Parish Council.
