SARATOGA SPRINGS, New York (CMC):

Rajiv Maragh's steady stream of successes in North American horse racing continued at Saratoga racetrack on Monday, when the Jamaican brilliantly notched his 20th added-money triumph of the current racing year.

The 24-year-old Maragh guided the four-year-old filly, Dean Henry, to a thrilling come-from-behind upset victory in the US$82,950 Saratoga Dew Stakes for a third major win in just four days at the New York track.

He had also won Friday's US$79,750 Funny Cide Stakes with Future Prospect and the US$294,000 Ballerina Stakes with Music Note on Saturday.

A 9-to-1 bet in the seven-horse field, Dean Henry won by a head and clocked one minute 51.43 seconds for the mile and an eighth trip.

Eighth stakes win

The result gave Maragh his eighth stakes win at Saratoga during August and trainer Tom Albertrani his first win of the meet.

Coming from the rear of the field down the backstretch, Dean Henry made a huge move leaving the far turn and was within striking distance of the lead as the field entered the homestretch.

Maragh got the filly to accelerate rapidly over the last furlong and outgunned the 6-1 bet Yet Again and the second favourite My Dinah (3-1) in the final strides.

My Dinah had opened a seemingly insurmountable lead approaching the eighth pole but faltered suddenly in late stretch.

A mere quarter of a length separated the first three finishers.

Maragh is currently third in the Saratoga jockeys' table with 27 wins, chasing Ramon Dominguez (37) and Alan Garcia (31).

With victories also at Aqueduct, Tampa Bay, Oaklawn Park, Keeneland and Belmont so far this year, Maragh has tallied 173 wins for mounts' earnings of US$7.67 million.
