WESTERN BUREAU:The fish and wine surpassed expectations while the conversation on the lips of foodies at the Caymus wine dinner at the ritzy White Witch Restaurant in Montego Bay centred around Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell.

Friday, August 21, was a very pleasant one and the venue selected by the California-based Napa Valley winemaker's distributor, Caribbean Producers, was ideal. The view from the Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall-owned restaurant was breathtaking as the lights of Rose Hall beckoned from the 18-hole championship golf course.

"If they put some hurdles in front of him (Bolt), he wouldn't have made it," said Half Moon's Ewart McKie, speaking of Usain Bolt's prowess in Berlin, while giving up faith in the ability of his long legs to make it over the hurdles.

"I say he would hurdle them three at a time," responded Palmyra's Dennis Constanzo, defending the triple world champion.

"So when is he coming to Montego Bay?" injected Paula Burgos in her unique Spanish accent, anxious to see Jamaica's sprint star.

The waiter who served tartar of yellowtail and avocado, seared halibut with roasted cauliflower puree and the grilled filet with cabernet and figs reduction offered this as an answer to the 200m world record of 19.19: "Is the obeah man mek sure him get them numbers," he said jokingly.

Accompanying this exciting conversation were Caymus' Conundrum, the full-bodied Mer Foleil Chardonnay, the earthy Belly Glos Pinot Noir and the robust Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the best wine of the evening.

Caribbean Producers plans to go with the 'Best of Spain' at its next dinner, which takes place at the Iberostar Rose Hall.
