It was not a gold medal, but Pamela Bailey, mother of Veronica Campbell-Brown, was just as pleased and excited for her daughter, who placed second in the IAAF World Championships in Athletics 200 metre finals yesterday in Berlin, Germany.
Veronica Campbell-Brown mined a silver medal for Jamaica for the second consecutive World Championships, dashing across the finish line in 22.35 seconds behind Allyson Felix of the United States.
"Right now her foot is sick," Bailey explained.
"From the other day, she tell me she have a hurt and she never tell me that it get better," she added.
Laughter and screams
The family house in Angels Estate was not as still as it was just a few days ago when Campbell-Brown took fourth place in the 100-metre final. Yesterday, there was some laughter and even screams to celebrate her sterling silver.
"We give her our support. Sometimes we have to just have some faith and trust God," she said.
She isn't worrying too much now about what people might say about her daughter because of her less colourful achievements in these championships when compared to others.
"No, me naah worry, man. Me have God (so) me no keep think(ing) bout dem something there," she said.
She is only holding on to the confidence now that Campbell-Brown will at least take home a gold medal as part of the female 4x100 relay team.
