From August 10 to September 2, the newest venue to get you fit and in shape is Michi Super Centre on Savannah Avenue, off Washington Boulevard. No, not to browse the aisles, but to walk, jog, run or take part in aerobic classes or to get the attention of a personal trainer to target those problem areas. And it's all free!
Marketing Manager at Michi, Claudine Coley, explained that they noticed many customers parking their cars in the evenings and walking around the car park or stretching. They also saw persons walking on the outside of the property. "We didn't think that was really safe, we have proper security in place and a large parking lot."
When Flair visited last Tuesday, one person doing laps around the west end of the parking lot was Lavern Johnson. She heard about it from a friend and made the journey from her home in Liguanea. "I'm diabetic so I have to stay in shape," she explained.
Marilyn Anderson filled two small water bottles with sand, to act as weights, and jogged with her two children.
Oavah Daye-Gordon and her children Tyrique and Steve-Ann Gordon are fast becoming 'regulars'. "I'm enjoying every minute of Michi," she exclaimed, noting that she lives just across the street.
With music provided by Ripton Wedderburn of Nasee, persons started to sweat and bones creaked as personal trainer Tafari Gordon took them through the paces.
Off to the side, Nathan Messias gave individuals personalised attention, targeting their problem areas.
Between breaths, persons made trips to Michi's partner vendors who provided refreshments. Coley noted that vendors such as Wisynco, Cari-Med, Redstripe with their Malta brand, Best Dressed Foods, Trade Winds Citrus, Grace Foods and Pepsi were very excited to participate, offering refreshments and tips on healthy nutrition.
So, on your next visit to Michi Super Centre, take your walking shoes.
Keep fit at Michi on Mondays to Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
