Jamaica's Under-20 netballers booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the World Youth Netball Championship in the Cook Islands with an easy 93-14 victory Papau New Guinea on Friday.

The young Sunshine Girls thus completed their Group D fixtures unbeaten with four victories from four matches.

They will face the runner-up of Pool A, which was to be decided last night, between Trinidad and Tobago and Northern Ireland.

Captain Christina Solmon led the Jamaicans with 57 goals from 65 attempts and received solid support from vice-captain Romelda Aiken, who shot 20 goals from 23 attempts.

Aiken was introduced into the game at the start of third quarter.

Patricia McCalla, seven from 11, Crystal Gordon, five from seven, and Vanessa Walker, four from seven, were the scorers for the C. Lloyd Walker-coached team.

Dacia Barnes, assistant coach of Jamaica, said the girls are very confident going into the quarter-finals.

"They are going into the next round very focused and we should expect good things from them," said Barnes, who is a former national senior representative.

"The coaching staff is in a very good mood and we are motivating the girls and they are all working well together to win the gold medal," Barnes added. "These girls really want to win and they are going to do it for their country."

Barnes also said she is also pleased with the girls' effort because they were able to use all players during the match.

"I think that is was a good performance from our girls on Friday because they got a chance to play and they all played very well," she noted.
