Jazz and Blues festival promoters, Turnkey Productions, are gearing up for a new project.

The group, known for its international-flavoured music festivals, has entered the adrenaline-filled world of motor racing.

According to Marcia McDonnough, marketing and sponsorship manager of Turnkey Productions, her group has partnered with Spot Valley Complex, Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) and the Sports Development Foundation to host two one-day 'racing extravaganzas'.

The meets are scheduled for September 6 and November 1, 2009, at the Spot Valley Complex in St James.

McDonnough said while motorsport is a new venture for the group, team members have experience in event management to make this project a success.

"Yes ... it is new and exciting for us. But we have the expertise in providing high-quality entertainment and food to make this a world-class event," she said.

The marketing manager was quick to point out that the race meets would be different from the established events staged locally.

"The focus will not just be on racing ... it will be a family fun day," she said.

The main features of the race meets on both days will be: a food festival, live stage show and a special area designated for children activities.

"It will be a festive atmosphere," she said.

McDonnough also pointed out that despite the economic climate, she was confident that the event would be successful.

"It won't be expensive ... $500 for adults and $200 for children. In addition, some of the proceeds will go to the development of the community," she said. However, she noted that her group was still actively seeking sponsorship for the event.

Co-promoter David Lee, of Spot Valley Complex, explained that the one-mile gravel surface was ideal for race meets, including the feature racing event - the JMMC Sprint Championship - as well as the rally cross series and quad racing.

Lee, a member of both the JMMC and the Montego Bay Motoring Club, is the Rally Driving Champion of 2007 and 2008.

Spot Valley Complex, located on 200 acres of land near the Rose Hall main road, is no stranger to the international spotlight. Recently, the complex hosted international dirt biker, Travis Pastrana, who was featured on MTV.
