Hospitals spared worst of drought

Though the current drought has fuelled an islandwide water shortage, the National Water Commission (NWC) has ensured that Jamaica's only children's hospital has not been affected.

Chief executive officer of the Bustamante Hospital for Children, Beverley Needham, said the facility had been spared adverse effects.

"The drought caused us to sometimes lose some amount of pressure on the water but the important thing is we are still getting water," she said.

Reports received from South East Regional Health Authority indicate that all other hospitals are currently operating without major disruption.

The island has been scorched by climbing temperatures this summer.

The water company issued a prohibition notice enforcing more stringent water conservation measures on households and businesses, which became effective Monday.
