Reader's views - the 10 best westerns of all time
Published: Saturday | July 11, 2009

Dear Mr Clarke,
My reason for writing to you is that I read an article you wrote sometime ago on the 10 best or greatest gangster films of all times, e.g. Angels with Dirty Faces, Scarface, The Godfather, Hoodlum, etc.
reader's views
Well, after reading your article, which I thought was very okay, I decided to put forth my own list on some of what I consider to be my 10 best picks.
I do hope or wish that you would have continued with such articles, and also to get the readers to share their own views on what they consider to be their 10 best western movies of all time. So, Mr Clarke, here are my 10 best westerns.
1. The Magnificent Seven
2. Django
3. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
4. Shane
5. Unforgiven
6. A Fistful of Dollars
7. 3:10 To Yima (The remake)
8. They Call Me Trinity
9. How The West Was Won
10. Rawhide
There were others such as Winchester '73, Cimmaron and The Man From Snowy River, which were also good, but they did not make my list.
As you can see, I did not include any John Wayne westerns on my list because, to me, most of his westerns seem lacking in substance.
I am, etc.,
