The pageant, which is open to girls 14-17 years old, deals primarily with the applicant's knowledge of current affairs, Jamaican culture and history. It aims to assist the personal development of young women through grooming sessions, public speaking and social development.
Something positive
Ronald Waite, one of the organisers, said the Miss Teen Portmore Pageant came out of the need to facilitate and assist girls in Portmore, especially during the summer holidays, with something positive to occupy their time.
With the help of former Portmore mayor, George Lee, and Millicent Lynch, former president of the Portmore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the inaugural staging was held in 2004.
Jodi-Ann Campbell is the reigning Miss Teen Portmore.
