Other celebrants

Also celebrating on the 12th are the talented Jai-Gairy Smith, who will be making it a rather intimate do; and the absolutely gorgeous, and stunningly so, Tamara Nikie Petersen, will be celebrating and then some, in Germantown, WI.

And belated wishes to the fab Marsha Wilson, who celebrated her birthday on Tuesday of this week with a fab outing in Beverley Hills.

Many happy returns y'all with champagne toasts and Beluga treats!

Then the buzz in theatrical circles is all about the JSPCA Cocktail Evening and Benefit Performance of Dreamgirls the musical at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI, on Sunday, July 26, at 3 p.m.

Now-legendary musical

Presented under the auspices of the Jamaica Musical Theatre Company, the original cast and show of the now-legendary musical, follows the story of a young female singing trio called The Dreams, who became music superstars and played for a record 1,521 performances on Broadway, starring Ben Harney, Jennifer Holiday, Loretta Devine and Jamaica's own Sheryl Lee Ralph.

But who can forget that absolutely dee-vine song And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going, immortalised by Jennifer Holiday, and later revisited to international acclaim by Jennifer Hudson, in the movie version, that saw her winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. You know we are talking about one awesome role here!

My daahlings, if for nothing else, the Jamaica Musical Theatre Company's mounting of this musical is a must-see, just to see how the songstress cast in the role treats the title song from the show!

A good cause

Pumpkins, y'all can bet your slice of that delicious jackfruit-upside-down cake, that this here scribe will be in attendance! And, as the staging of this musical is all about a good cause, that of helping to raise funds to secure a home for the Jamaica Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, dears, it's all about partying for a cause!

And many congrats to Cherise Francis-Windle, as she is now president-elect of the Orange County Chapter of the California Association for Nurse Practitioners, the first time in the history of the 31-year-old 400-member organisation that someone of Jamaican extraction has been elected to head the prestigious body!

The president-elect will take up office in November, after returning from London, where she and hubby John Windle, will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, with family and friends in what promises to be quite the do!
