Classy Harbour View blank Santos 4-0

Harbour View United lived up to expectations yesterday drubbing Santos 4-0 in Sherwin Williams Women's League action at the Harbour View Mini Stadium.

The Stars of the East grabbed the lead in the eighth minute from a penalty taken by Stacey-Ann Johnson. Peta-Gaye Smith had a chance to equalise for Santos shortly after, but failed to convert.

In the final seconds of the first half Shakira Duncan made it 2-0 for Harbour View with a header from inside the six-yard box.Midway the second half, Santos dug a deeper hole for themselves when Latisha Daley put the ball into her own net in the 65th minute.

Substitute Shanique Mitchell, who came on in the 46th minute, completed the scoring for Harbour View in the 80th minute.

Coach Vin Blaine of Harbour View United said the team did what was expected.

"Our performance was what we wanted. We won the game so we can't ask for anything more," Blaine said.

Second goal

The girls, he said, stood up in the first half and stayed behind the ball. He stated that the second goal came just before the half and that's what they needed to go into the second half.

"In the second half we did what we had to do. We moved the ball around and Santos relented, so we scored two more goals," Blaine said.

Other games

In the day's other games, Barbican swamped Maverley Hughenden 8-0 with goals coming from Jodi-Ann McGregor (4), Janine Bennett (2) and Alicia James and Yanique Goldspring.

Trelwany Women defeated Arnett Gardens 3-2 at the Elliston Wakeland Centre. Portmore Strikers were 2-0 winners over Constant Spring with Tashana Vincent scoring both goals. Meadhaven United got by Olympic Gardens 3-0 at Michigan Avenue.
