Marcia Griffiths, reggae artiste

"When I heard that his death wasn't confirmed, the first thing I said was, 'Please, God, let it not be.' Then I started to pray. But it all took me by surprise because I didn't know of him being sick, that it had reached a stage of death.

"There is no one like him. He is the greatest entertainer to hit the stage. Everyone loves his music, from the children at kindergarten stage to the elderly. We performed together and it was a wonderful experience.

"I have learnt a great deal from him, such as to be positive and daring in my performances. I will cherish his memory forever."

Tommy Cowan, CEO of Glory Music

"At first I couldn't come to terms with his death. It's amazing to know that the kid that I worked on promotion for has actually died."

Clyde McKenzie, media and entertainment consultant

"It was a terrible and sad day. The 25th of June will be remembered as the day when Michael Jackson passed away. It's one of those days that you will always remember."

Jamaica Reggae Industry Association

"Michael Jackson led a long and illustrious career as a musician, songwriter and entertainer. His vast body of work, spanning most of his 50-year life, was very well received and admired in Jamaica. The Jackson Five, with Michael as lead singer, performed to over 30,000 rapturous patrons at the National Stadium in Kingston in 1975. We cheered for him throughout his solo career, replete with chart-topping hits, best-selling albums and sold-out concerts, leading to his eventual status as a global superstar. Though the man has passed, his legacy as a lyricist and performer will be revered for years to come. The King of Pop will continue to be a source of inspiration to Jamaican entertainers."

GT Taylor, radio presenter

"I'm stunned. It's a great loss because Michael Jackson has done so much for the entire world. He was one of the persons who opened my eyes to certain things in entertainment, especially dancing and the Moonwalk (laughs).

"His songs are anthems really, and he's definitely the King of Pop and he's gonna be missed. I don't think anyone will follow him."

Frankie Campbell, bass player and manager of Fab 5

"I am saddened by his death because I was looking forward to a comeback from the icon, which I know he would do after his tour in England. He is an innovator, he always comes with something new and good. He is the best and though there are other good performers, nobody has ever reached his standard."
