EPSOM, England (AP):

Sea The Stars won the English Derby yesterday becoming the first horse in 20 years to win the Epsom classic after triumphing in the 2,000 Guineas.

Mick Kinane rode the 11-4 shot to glory by 1 3/4 lengths to emulate the double last achieved by Nashwan in 1989.

"I was going so easy all the way, it was as if we were going in slow motion - that's the key to him, he has serious tools, over any trip," the 49-year-old Kinane said. "I couldn't believe my luck when he came along, being bred as he was with the physical and mental attributes to be a great horse.

"He has given me a new lease of life and he is a pleasure to be around."

Sea The Stars won the Guineas at Newmarket last month.

"He has never let us down," said trainer John Oxx. "When Mick sent him on I knew he wouldn't stop. He had been going too well for too long."

Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien saw two of his six runners cross the line in second and third at the racecourse south of London with Fame And Glory a neck ahead of Masterofthehorse.

"The winner won well but all our horses ran well too," O'Brien said. "I'll have to look back at the race again but they all came through their trials and we're pleased with them."
