York Castle community in shock over gruesome death

The mood at York Castle yesterday was one of gloom. "We're all in a very sombre mood," said acting principal Esmie McLeod. "A team from the Ministry of Education is here offering counselling as we grapple with the high feeling of emotionalism that is pervading all of us at this point."

McLeod described Nisa Grant as a "wonderful girl" who was very purposeful and highly involved in school activities.

Grant was part of the school's quiz team and was expected to be part of York Castle's Schools' Challenge Quiz team next academic year.

She was also a member of the 4H Club and had on occasion entered the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission festival.

Classes were suspended at the school for the morning session as students were allowed to express their emotions in an effort to try and overcome their grief.
