Air Jamaica's many problems

The Editor Sir:

I am not sure whether the Jamaican people realise that some of the problems Air Jamaica has had, and, I assume, is still having, are the heavy fines they have to pay due to Jamaicans travelling on the plane carrying drugs.

When the drugs are found in the possession of these people, the airline is fined a hefty amount.

Like many other travellers, my family and I have had our share of long delays when travelling on Air Jamaica. The worst was last July, travelling with my three grand-daughters, all under the age of nine, and my two daughters. The airline had our hotel number and a cellular number for me, but never called to advise me of a delay.

Professional staff

The flight was scheduled to depart at 5:45 p.m.; we left at 12:05 a.m. the next day. We arrived in NY after 3 a.m. and I had to go to work.

Still, I would never think of using another airline but Air Jamaica, when travelling to Jamaica. I find the staff to be very professional. The aircraft crew is very knowledgeable and always willing to give a helping hand, even when so many Jamaicans on the flight are rude and disrespectful to them.

Cutting the routes that are not profitable is just business. I am sure like American Airlines, Air Jamaica and other airlines have no alternative but to restructure.

I am, etc,
