The Editor, Sir:Hanging is definitely justifiable now, more than ever, in this country. Anyone who can kill or behead children, as is a sudden custom of these child predators in this society, deserves death.
I am perturbed that this is what our little island has come to, but I think that it is a wake-up call to criminals and potential murderers, who will probably think twice before committing these atrocious crimes.
Alternative punishment
'A life for another life' is not morally or ethically right but I cannot think of any alternative punishment that would enable these 'devourers of life' to get their comeuppance. However, after much analysis of the situation, it is easy to say that the implementation of capital punishment would have many psychological implications on the society, especially our youths.
I hope that we are doing the right thing and see results of a lesser crime rate and consequently a better life for our people.
I am, etc.,
