Top it off

Dayna Raynor, Gleaner Writer

Just like toppings on a sundae, dress tops glam up gals' image. Whether the style is elegant, sporty or simply casual, your top should add flair to your personal style. Below are some of the finest tops worn by today's teens!

The Oscar Design, by Elaine, Winchester Business Centre

15 Hope Road, Shop #11, Kingston, Telephone: 926-8826

Honourable mention: This new branch of Elaine's has hot clothing and jewellery trends. Stop by, it's totally worth it.

From left:

  • (1)Breezy

Completely inspired by the need for comfort, the breezy dress top is extremely versatile. Dress it up, or down, with jewellery, flats, heels, skinny jeans or leggings. In this design, puffed sleeves, plunging neck line and brail-like texture make it a fun-to-wear outfit.

  • (2) Tubes

The days of hiding your tubes under jackets and dresses are over. Over! You're a beaut, so stop cramping your style. The tube top is an excellent piece to debut on its own. The perspective of longer arms and exposed shoulders is what the tube top is all about today. They are also extremely fun to accessorise.

  • (3) Clinched waist and frills

Small waist and frills for taste complement these tops. Since puffed sleeves and extravagant frills have staged a re-emergence in the fashion world, there has been no stopping this trend. The magic is in the frill and detail at the top, combined with the clinched waist, which give the illusion of a smaller waist. These are best worn at soirées or other functions where fashion is on the agenda.

  • (4) Corset

This top, derived from the girdle, was worn by most women throughout the period 1920-70. They were an important part of the fashion aesthetic of these decades. Then, a woman needed to be smooth and sleek if she were to look her best. However, 21st-century fashionistas have redefined this look. No longer should girls hide their figures under loads of garment. C'mon, girls, show your mould and give your curves a kick.

  • (5) Halter

This ingenious beauty has been in style for ages. The design imbues the front with the illusion of flatter stomach, while the daring backless exposé is always very appealing. These tops also help to emphasise cleavage and are definitely an attractive look for most women.

  • (6)Regular tees and tanks

Sometimes simple is simply fantastic. Whether tight or roomy, these tops' versatility makes them an ideal mainstay for many dames. Throw in oddball graphics for personal flavour and you'll be quite a looker.

  • (7)High neck

Inspired by the turtleneck, this fashion fling definitely modifies the look of the 1970s. The chic, sleek, slenderised finish will make a statement from casual to formal functions.
