Four teamsadvance in Bell KO
published: Sunday | November 2, 2008

There were no major surprises in KSAFA Jackie Bell KO third round action yesterday as former National Premier League campaigners - Bull Bay and Duhaney Park, and Maxfield Park and Rae Town - all registered victories.

In the feature game, Bull Bay defeated August Town 1-0, Duhaney Park got the better of Rockfort 3-0, Maxfield edged Liguanea 1-0, while Rae Town hammered Port Royal 4-0.

At the UWI Bowl Bull Bay and August Town had problems coping with the wet and soggy conditions. The game's only goal was scored by Renardo Lee in the 10th minute.

August Town then had an opportunity to pull level three minutes later from the penalty spot but captain Nicholas Smith's shot hit the upright and came back into play.

The action then switched from end to end for the rest of the game with Bull Bay trying to increase their lead and August Town gunning for the equaliser.

However, neither team was successful in their pursuits. August Town, especially after the introduction of Nicholas McCreath at the half, missed at least three good scoring chances.

Good game

"We played a reasonably good game," said Bull Bay coach, Michael McIntosh, who is in his second season in charge of the team. "August Town came very hard, but we did what we had to do to get the victory. It's now on to the next round," he declared.

"We got opportunities but didn't capitalise," said August Town coach, Calvert Fitzgerald.

"We will now have to turn our attention to the Super League, and if Bull Bay are a good benchmark of what we will be facing, I am looking for us to perform well," he added.

The competition will continue on Tuesday with the playing of four other third round matches.

JDF will face Brown's Town at Up Park Camp, Shortwood will host UWI, Molynes United go up against Police Nationals, while Constant Spring will travel to Barbican to face the home team.

All matches begin at 3 p.m.
