Edna Manley Collegestarts new trend in student exhibitions
published: Sunday | November 2, 2008

The CAG[E], the art gallery of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (EMCVPA), has announced its second exhibition for the 2008-2009 season, titled 'Curator's Selections 2008: Recent Work by Visual Arts Students'.

The exhibition opens on Tuesday, November 4 at 6 p.m. and continues until Friday, November 14. Guest speaker will be Paul Issa, chairman of the board of directors.

Exhibitors

Curator's Selections includes recent works, hand-picked by CAG[e] curator, Veerle Poupeye, from the submissions made by 12 School of Visual Arts students.

Students who will be exhibiting include Greg Bailey, Dale Bedasse, Vanessa Clarke, Marlon Dixon, Camilla Facey, Karl Fagan, Radcliffe Fullwood, Leasho Johnson, Ricardo Lewis, Monique Lofters, Rohan Mitchell and Mark Samuels, representing years two, three and four at the college.

The artworks will present a range from departments of visual communication (graphics), painting and art education.

Exposure

The purpose of Curator's Selection exhibition, which is intended to be the first of an annual series, is to give public exposure to new aesthetic, conceptual and technical directions in the work of EMCVPA's visual arts students.

Conversely, the exhibition aims to give EMCVPA students much-needed exposure to exhibiting and working with curators and galleries, which will in turn contribute to their professional growth.

The CAG[E] is located on the second floor of the multimedia building on the college campus.

Opening hours during exhibitions are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays 11 p.m. to 7 p.m. and by appointment.
