Melbourne, Westmoreland clash
published: Saturday | September 13, 2008

Jermaine Lannaman, Gleaner Writer

Eight of the island's top cricket teams will be in action today in the quarter-final round of Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) limited overs competition.

In the feature game, champions Melbourne will play Westmoreland at Courtney Walsh Drive, St Ann will entertain Portland at St Ann Bauxite, two-day champions St Catherine will face Manchester at Chedwin Park, while St Elizabeth will be at home to Kensington.

Tomorrow has been set a reserve day, should any of the contests end in a no-result.

Meanwhile, the final of JCA Minor Cup, will take place tomorrow at Elleston Road. Melbourne will battle Lucas for the crown.

In the senior match-up today between Melbourne and Westmore-land, it will be a case of 'David versus Goliath' with the likes of West Indies representatives Carlton Baugh Jr, Nikita Miller and Donovan Pagon, taking on the likes of Westmoreland all-rounders Evon Mcinnis and Myron Wilson, veteran Cleveland Davidson and former national youth captain, Derval Green.

At St Ann Bauxite, surprise Group B winners St Ann, with West Indies batting prodigy, Xavier Marshall, will go up against the Carl Brissett-led Portland, who narrowly clipped Kingston for second spot in Group C, after a JCA ruling on their rain-affected game at Folly Oval last weekend, which was controversially aborted.
