Nine senior policemen and women were transferred from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) to various sections of the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Mobile Reserve, Special Anti-Crime Branch, Anti-Corruption Unit and the Motorised Patrol, according to an order published yesterday.Speaking with The Gleaner yesterday, Superintendent Ionie Ramsay, who is in charge of the CCN, said the transfers were being discussed more than 11 months ago, when Commissioner of Police Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin was appointed.
Ramsay told The Gleaner that the nine police personnel were transferred to various formations, depending on the need for their presence. According to Ramsay, personal considerations, such as family commitments, were also considered.
The downsizing exercise, she said, would not affect the efficiency with which information was disseminated to the media, because all liaison officers had retained their positions.
The CCN, Ramsay said, might eventually employ civilians as opposed to the present practice.
