Unfortunate comments
published: Saturday | September 13, 2008

I read with interest the letters in your September 12 edition decrying the unfortunate link made between Usain Bolt and DJ Mavado. I share those sentiments wholeheartedly and hope that at least an explanation (preferably an apology) will be quickly forthcoming from the organisers of the event.

Even more unfortunate and inexplicable, however, are comments made by Police Commissioner, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin at a meeting, as reported on CVM TV's 'Newswatch' on September 11. On more than one occasion during the report Commissioner Lewin was heard saying persons had "screwed up".

This is 'hardley' wholesome language for our children, and it is even more unfortunate coming from a senior public figure.

How far are we going to sink?

Stability needed

When are we going to get it right and stop hiring an interim coach for two years or more. We need stability for our football team to produce on the pitch. If Simoes was not fired and we qualified for WC 2010, what would we say? Thanks for getting us to the Promised Land, but your contract is up after the World Cup?

That would lead to the same problem. New coach and regime and the Boyz would slip down the FIFA rankings. We need someone for the duration to coach the young Boyz and the senior squad. Also, our coaches need to learn more about the tactical and technical aspects of football. Our shooting in front of goal is horrendous. We shoot as if we are trying to bring a plane down. We need indoor facilities to teach close ball skills and to play under pressure.

Denise Allen

I really need your help. I have been trying for more than a year now to locate my good friend, Denise Allen, from Jamaica. We used to be pen pals and friends for years. She subsequently moved to the UK for higher studies in a university there.

I would like to re-establish contact with her. She used to go under the pen name of 'FLAME'

I would really appreciate your help in this matter.
