  • Tank-Weld take domino double

Knockout champions Tank-Weld duly completed the 2008 Business House domino double when they beat defending champions Seprod 125-113 in the Jamaica Electrical Technologies (JET) sponsored league final at Jacisera Park on Friday night. The MVP players for Tank-Weld were Michael James and Kirkland McIntosh while Seprod's top pair was Linton Gayle and Deon Lettman.

Winning captain Marvin Osbourne said: "Like Usain Bolt, it was great to achieve the double and we beat some good teams like The Gleaner, JET and Seprod along the way.

"We took a one-year break from the competition last year," he said. "But we came back better organised and more focused and made amends this time around. This was our first league title and I'm happy for the team." The championship trophy was presented to Osbourne by Calman Barrett, CEO of JET.

  • Division Two final ends in dispute

Port Authority and Berger went down to the wire in the Division Two domino final at Jacisera Park on Friday night, but the match was curtailed in the dying stages at 148-all when a female supporter of Port Authority barged into the ring and assaulted one of the judges.

Port Authority led 79-72 at halftime and seemingly had the match sewn up when leading 143-134 in the rush for the 150 cut-off mark. However, Berger fought back strongly in the closing stages, cutting the lead to 145-141, 147-146 and drawing level at 148-all.

With the title hanging in the balance and tension high, a dispute developed at one of the tables. The judge intervened and was verbally abused by a Port Authority player whose wife, it is understood, stormed into the ring and pushed the official, bringing the game into disrepute.

During the scuffle, Port Authority won two quick games on two other tables to reach 150, but the match was declared unfinished by the officials.

Rey Smith, president of the National Association of Domino Bodies, said a ruling on this final will be made by the disciplinary committee later this week. The top players for Port Authority were Christopher Ricketts and Arnold Thompson while Neville Thomas and Daneford Haughton were tops for Berger.
