How about a smile campaign!
published: Tuesday | July 29, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Maybe what this country needs to heal itself at the present time is for all of us to go on a smile campaign.

You would be surprised what a smile can do - first reaction of the person you smile with is confusion and you can see the brain working: Do I know this person? After some time, the person realises that the person is a stranger, a Jamaican greeting another Jamaican.

Hopefully, that same person will smile with everyone and there will be epidemic of smiling throughout the land. This, to my mind, could take us back to a time in Jamaica when we were our brothers' keepers.

Important to save country

I personally believe that this will go a far way and will help each citizen to realise how very important it is to make every effort to save this beautiful country.

It is worth saving and so let us all make a final go at saving our inheritance and what's more, keeping it intact for the next generation. It is an imperative which we all ignore at our peril.

I am sure this sounds very 'wishy washy' to you all, but nothing tried, nothing gained.

Over to you all who love this blessed isle.

I am, etc.,
