VOX POP - sex-tape controversy
published: Saturday | June 21, 2008

Alexander Mitchell, Relationship Writer

Sex is a topic that always sparks interest. However, the phenomenon of sex tapes has set off a firestorm of controversy in Jamaica. It's no longer the domain of celebrities - the average man has also been caught on camera doing the 'dirty'.

The issue is hardly whether it's right or wrong to record one's trysts, but the impact on career, public image and family if the tape gets widespread circulation.

Saturday Life was on the hot trail to get the public's views on the follow question: How would you feel if your close friend was caught on a sex tape?

Andrew: I'd be distraught and shocked, and basically discontinue any further association with that person. Cut dem off.

Odane: I would feel indifferent to the situation. As far as I'm concerned, it's his/her life and choice. One can't allow one's friend's lifestyle to affect the friendship.

Nathalie: I would be disappointed and also embarrassed, but I wouldn't give up on them. I would give them encouragement and some guidance as to never take part in such activities again, and stay away from sexual immorality.

Samantha: Shocked and disappointed, especially with the fact that there are so many demeaning things done to women every day, through songs, etc. I'd still talk to them and show my dissatisfaction and encourage them to do better. It would affect our friendship but I'd try to be close, regardless.

David: I'd feel embarrassed for that friend, knowing that people would now look at him/her in a distasteful light. But depending on how remorseful they are, I would just remind them that God is there for them, as the most important thing is not to let them feel more humiliated.
