Bermuda and T&T adamant
published: Saturday | June 21, 2008

HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC):

Trinidad and Tobago's Soca Warriors, stung 2-1 by Bermuda last Sunday, arrived Thursday night for their must-win CONCACAF World Cup qualifier tomorrow night against the pumped-up Bermudians.

Sunday's result was T&T's first-ever loss to Bermuda in international football, and their captain, Aurtis Whitley, says the Soca Warriors cannot afford to be eliminated.

"There's nothing that will stop us from doing what we need to in order to get this result," he told T&T Football Federation (TTFF) media on the team's arrival Thursday night.

"This is a matter of win or go home and we definitely are not prepared to go home," he added.

Bermuda striker John Barry Nusum, who scored both goals in their first-leg qualifier, is committed to the return game tomorrow in spite of injury.

Won't even be an issue

"I'll be playing against Trinidad, I can let you know that now. It won't even be an issue," Nusum told reporters this week. "I've been icing my hamstring and using an electric stimulating machine on it ... It feels a lot better than it did after the game.

"If we stick together and stick to our game plan, I think we can pull this off," said US-based Nusum, who has played for United Soccer Leagues (USL) teams Virginia Beach Mariners, Toronto Lynx and Atlanta Silverbacks in the last five years.

T&T head coach Francisco Maturana, from Colombia, wants a very urgent approach since the Soca Warriors need to ensure a win by two clear goals.

"It is important not to panic, but yes, we are facing a game which we need to finish the job away from home," he said.

"Before last Sunday's game maybe some people did not expect this to be the situation now but this is the reality and we have to just take care of it," added Maturana, a former Colombia World Cup coach.
