Grand Lido Bracoaim at St Ann Bauxite

Two-time champions Grand Lido Braco Resort and Spa face St Ann Jamaica Bauxite Partners as action in the Tropical Rhythms/ Purified Water-sponsored Western Hotels Sports Association all-island hotels netball competition continues at the Port Rhoades Sports Complex in Discovery Bay, St Ann, at 4 p.m.

Both teams shared the title last year but have had mixed results to date this season.

Manager and coach of the hotel team, Burchell Henry, has decided to go all out in order to move up the points table, thus, he has summoned national senior players Simone Forbes and Nichala Gibson to rejoin the team for this important clash. Henry will also have the services of former national senior players Jodyann Ffrench,Tamara Hylton and Margaret Byfield-Lawrence.

Black River face Parottee

The second semi-final in the St Elizabeth/Wray and Nephew Major League will be played tomorrow at the Appleton Estate Sports Complex, starting at 3 p.m.

Black River, the mid-season champions, have a one-goal advantage going into the match.

In the rain-affected first leg played at the Lacovia Community Centre last Thursday, Timothy Heywood scored for the Clive Thompson-coached Black River team in the 25th and 50th minutes, while Michael Rowe got the opening goal for the Godfrey 'Cop' Dunkley-coached team in the 10th minute.

Thompson, who has won the Division One three times and was the beaten finals coach last season, said he is confident his team will take their first Major League crown this season.

Portland cricket

Action in the West Portland 20/20 cricket competition continues tomorrow with five matches in the parish.

Spring Hill face Portland Masters in one of two 10:30 games at Charles Town. Oneaissance take on Balcarres at Caenwood in the other early game.

In the 2 p.m. contests, Tigry take on Kensington at Swift River, Sunshine play Bourbon at Caenwood and Chetworth entertain Rock Hall at Charles Town.

Second TT coaches' course

The second in a series of Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) training courses for coaches will start at G.C. Foster College on Monday.

The course will run for five days, June 23-27. The first course ended yesterday at the gymnasium of Church Teachers' College in Mandeville.

Classes will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Interested persons may contact technical director Donald Salmon at 369-4237 or chairman of the JTTA's development committee Peter Kavanaugh, at 879-2625.

Football campin Kingston

Local boys and girls, aged 8-18, will benefit from the Winston Chung Fah Summer Football Camp, scheduled for St Andrew, from June 30 to July 18.

The camp, which will be hosted at Campion College, will feature local and international coaches, football scouts from European clubs and college scouts from the United States.

Chung Fah, the main instructor, has distinguished himself as a technical football expert for more than 40 years. He is currently the technical director for the Academy Sports Club in the Cayman Islands, a position he has held for the past eight years.

Chung Fah is also a former high school, club and national coach in Jamaica. He has been organising clinics since 1982 and the Miami Classic International Youth Football Tournament is a product of his tutelage.

Locker Room Sports and Pepsi are the major sponsors of the camp.

Elim top Basic School Champs

Elim Early Childhood, with an overall total of 204.25 points, captured the 2008 Institute of Sports-sponsored Basic Schools Track and Field Championships that ended at the National Stadium last Friday.

The Shortwood-based school, coached by Albert Miles and June Gibson, won its fifth straight title.

Though this year's combined total was less than the 2007 team's 265 points, they were easy winners as no other school reached 100 points.

St Francis Infant finished second with 94.25 points, followed by Ascot, who jumped from ninth place last year to third place with 79 points, Alpha Infant with 70.25 points, moved from eighth last year to fourth, Bethany (68), Lalyce Gray (58.25) and Covenant Christian Academy (58).

Elim also came out on top with 87.25 and 117 points in the boys' and girls' sections respectively.

Kaheem Francis of Elim captured the Class One boys' 80 metres final in a time of 12.20 seconds and the boys Under-6 50m hurdles in 9.94 seconds, while Keon Clahar of Bethany was the other double winner, capturing the Class Three boys' 30m final in 5.90 seconds and the 40m potato race in 9.95 seconds.

The Class One girls' 80m final was won by Troy-Ann Gale of Ascot in 12.49 seconds, ahead of Aaliyah Dryden of Harvest Temple (12.60) and Chaneil Scott of Alvernia (12.75).

Michael Richards of Elim won the Class Two boys' 60m final in 10.31 seconds ahead of Shemar Tulloch of Harvest Temple (10.42) and Zion Bennett of Hydel (10.45).

Oracabessa on the double

Oracabessa Primary and Free Hill Primary played double matches both on the football field and the basketball court at the Eden Park Sports Complex on Wednesday, as the IST championships continued.

In the first game on the football field, a hat-trick by Tevesha Simmonds (14th, 30th and 37th minutes) carried Oracabessa Primary to a 4-0 win over Free Hill Primary. Brittany Swaby, in the 22nd minute, scored the other goal.

In game two, Simmonds was at it again in the 12th minute, while Samantha Wallace added the second in the 26th minute to hand Free Hill Primary team their second defeat of the day, going down 2-0.

Oracabessa Primary also dominated on the basketball court. In game one, Oracabessa Primary drubbed Free Hill Primary 34-13. In game two, Oracabessa Primary again overpowered Free Hill Primary, 27-1. The football semis will be played on Tuesday.

Coyaba too goodfor Breezes MoBay

In recent action from the Western Hotels Sports Association All-island hotels football competition, Coyaba Beach Resort Hotel defeated Warren Barrett-led Breezes Montego Bay 4-2 at the UDC field in Montego Bay.

In another Group B encounter, one of the fancied teams and second in the group so far, Round Hill Hotel defeated Sunset Beach Resort and Spa 4-1 at the Orchard Housing Scheme Sports Complex in Hopewell, Hanover.

Completing a trio of Group B matches, former champions and current leaders Half Moon Hotel chalked up their second win, a crushing 6-0 victory over Iberostar Rose Hall Beach.

The quartet of matches was completed when Sunset Jamaica Grande were humiliated 7-0 by newcomers Gran Bahķa Prķincipe at the Buckfield Oval in Ocho Rios, St Ann.
