'Destination Beijing' on track
published: Saturday | June 21, 2008

Watts

LUDLOW WATTS, chairman of the organising committee for the 2008 National Senior Championships, said this week that all arrangements for the June 27-29 meet, dubbed 'Destination Beijing', are on target.

"We have had some late entries ... but by Monday we should have the final entries," Watts said.

"At the moment, everything seems to be in order. The people we expect to enter have been entering ... from all indications everything is going smoothly," he said.

Watts said the organisers of the meet were carrying out a 'retooling' of their time-keeping equipment as they look forward to what is the biggest track and field meet of the year at the National Stadium.

The equipment will be tested today to ensure it is ready for the start of the meet next Friday.

Jamaica's track and field team to the Beijing Olympics is expected to be named within two days of the completion of next weekend's meet. The athletes are scheduled to arrive in China on July 31 for a training camp ahead of the August 15 start of the track and field events at the Games.
