The Gleaner of Tuesday, May 6, reported that there were mixed views to the six- month prison sentence handed down to Detective Constable Carey Lyn-Sue for confessing and pleading guilty to fabricating evidence against an accused.Pastor Glendon Powell in the same paper said he is not against Lyn-Sue being punished. If he is not against it, then what? One should note that God does forgive our sins if we confess and ask for forgiveness, but receiving forgiveness does not necessarily mean we will not pay the consequences of our action.
One great Bible character who paid dearly for his sin is David -- a man after God's own heart. David's prayer of confession and repentance is recorded in Psalm 51 after he caused Uriah to be killed after getting his wife pregnant.
Life of David
But still, God told him that a number of adverse consequences would follow him and his household. ( 2 Sam. 11, 12). If one studies the entire life of David, one would see the consequences of his action played out.
As a changed person, Lyn-Sue would have recognised this and will accept his punishment with humility. I hope that whether in or out of prison, his life will bear only good fruits as only then one will truly know his sincerity in walking the new road.
