Overcoming hard trials - Plight of a young farmer
In 1999, at the age of 18, Vijay Smith won his first Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) Young Farmers Awards. By the time he was 22, Vijay had won three others.

Since Wednesday, I have started, using the road show, Meet-the-Farmers, to listen to farmers' concerns, as well as to outline several initiatives aimed at advancing agriculture for sustainability and food security.

Jamaicans on training in Costa Rica

A farmer, along with 10 Rural Agricultural Development Authority extension officers and two researchers, left Jamaica for Costa Rica on Thursday. The contingent left the island for a one-month intensive training programme in advanced principles and management of greenhouse technology, hydroponics and organic agriculture - all tailored to tropical conditions.
