LEAGUE LEADERS Port-more United solidified their dominance of the National Premier League (NPL) with a 2-1 win over Boys' Town at the start of the final round of the competition at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.

Portmore seem set to take the NPL trophy to the Sunshine City as they have increased their points tally to 67 points while Boys' Town remain on 50 and are now out of contention, leaving only Tivoli to challenge Portmore.

Portmore United sped into the lead in the first minute, courtesy of Michael Binns. A super shot gave his team the confidence it needed to dominate the first half.

Despite good efforts from Boys' Town, who created numerous goal-scoring opportunities, they were unable to deliver any goals.

Portmore takes lead

By the 21st minute, Ricardo Cousins gave Portmore United a 2-0 lead. Taking the ball from the right flank, Cousins squared into the 16 yard-box and fired squarely into the back of the goal.

Despite the setbacks, Boys' Town were able to keep pace and in time added on for stoppages delivered a goal from substitute Carlton Young.

Andrew Price, coach of Boys' Town, said after the final whistle that his team could have won the game.

"We played much better in the second half. With a little more game we could have won," Price said. "Although we looked threatening, we played against a quality team so we should have ensured that we played a consistent game," he said.

Linval Dixon, coach of Portmore United, gave credit to his team for maintaining its winning streak.

"We played good football. We expected Boys' Town to play well but we played a better game and got the winning result in the end," Dixon said.
