Thursday talk - HOTTEST TOPICS ON THE COCKTAIL CIRCUIT
published: Thursday | April 24, 2008

1. Is it real cash?

Their work so far smacks of gross incompetence and they have become the laughing stock of sensible people! Are there really billions of dollars out there? Where is the proof?

2. The Cassava Man!

The call for the nation to turn to cassava to shore up its dietary supplement is not going down well at all. Maybe it was the manner in which the call was made, as even the most ardent supporters of the Cassava Man say he erred.

3. Failing the smell test

If you believe the spin doctors, the boss was a mere onlooker who took no part in the decision. And based on who's telling the tale, between one and three zeroes were left off the original sales agreement or the agreement of undertaking. Whatever the truth here, it is now widely accepted that the deal did not pass the smell test!

4. Small fry in trap

The old saying is, when you can't ketch Quaco, you ketch him shut. Seems like that was what happened to the former politician as, when all attempts at finding something incriminating to embarrass and/or make an arrest failed, the smaller fry was caught in the trap.

5. Expecting a windfall

Seems like at least two senior persons are expecting a windfall of one sort or another, as word is that the two recently jetted into the offshore banking centre on a private jet to open up their own forex accounts.

6. Top-heavy delegation

Hear that the head of the organisation was not at all enthusiastic about the trip to the Far East, as he does not consider this one of the potentially emerging markets to be tapped into and that probably explains his absence from the top-heavy delegation.

7. Dissing the wife?

They say the wife is now complaining that she is not being shown the respect she deserves by some. Those accused have responded in kind and added that respect is not only a two-way street; it is earned, not bestowed!

8. Out-of-pocket collapse

It is emerging that it is not just the unschooled members of the masses who were left out-of-pocket by the collapse of the alternative investment scheme. The whispers are mounting about the millions lost by some from the upper stratum of the society.

9. Is it back to the polls?

With all the promised goodies, was it an election budget?

10. Still burdensome

So, not only must the taxpayers continue to carry the burdensome Air Jamaica, they, too, must suffer by continuing to fork out premium dollars for flying, as the application for a licence to operate a cheaper inter-island air service was denied.
