Abysmal road conditions
published: Thursday | April 24, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Last week I had the misfortune to travel into Portland via the Junction road. I say misfortune , because while one understands the roadworks necessary for Highway 2000 from Ocho Rios to Port Antonio, things were so difficult as to make me swear to return to Kingston via St Thomas. This turned out to be a major mistake. This was because what was once a road, was in such abyssmal condition as to make my car's front end continually cry out in protest and cover us all in dust.

Sympathy

There was a protest by taxi drivers on Monday, April 21, about the seriously poor state of parts of this same route (Port Antonio to Manchioneal). Having experienced this same 'road', I fully sympathise with them.

Never have I seen such poor travelling conditions. I was embarrassed for my family who were visiting, and especially sorry for those persons who lived in this area, Manchioneal to Hector's River. I appeal to the NWA to consider the persons who live in these areas and to remind them, that they too are taxpayers.

I am, etc.,

KARL AIKEN

Kingston 6.
