NOTE-WORTHY: SUV symbols
published: Thursday | April 24, 2008

SUV symbols

Politicians should start taking the environmental issue seriously. It is simply mind-boggling that so many of them drive these big, environmentally-unhealthy vehicles.

SUVs are not safer for other road users including pedestrians so the safety benefit has multiple dimensions. Plus, "SUVs are four times more likely than cars to roll over in an accident and three times more likely to kill the occupants in a rollover" according to the Sierra Club.

Instead of politicians saying SUVs are better for the road conditions, why don't they just get the road condition problems sorted out rather than using it as an excuse to drive vehicular behemoths?

Lost camera

I was just vacationing in Jamaica and loved the country very much; the most beautiful I have been to so far! The people are wonderful. I'm hoping to reach one of them!

On April 8, I was shopping at the Taj Mahal shopping centre, and I left my digital camera somewhere there. The camera itself doesn't mean much, but the memory card with over 400 pictures on it does! It's the last 6 or 7 years of my life! I'm desperate to get it back.

If there is an honest person out there who found it, there will be a reward for its return. It's a silver and purple Canon powershot camera with a Seattle Seahawks sticker on the front. It is in a small black case. If I get it back, I would be beyond grateful!

Hospital condition

I am concerned about the patients at the Princess Margaret Hospital in St Thomas. The beds are rusty, the floorings have cracks all over. When I go to the rest room there is no soap to wash hands with nor paper towel to dry your hands. Some of the nurses talk loudly and carry on. The hospital is not the same anymore. I think the minister of health should go there and see the condition.

Hang in there!

I just want to say how sorry I am that the rains have done so much damage to your beautiful town! I have been to Ocho Rios six times and will return again and again. I will be sending items to our friends there to help ease the pain. Hang in there, you are all special people!
